Wanjiru Koinange with Vani Mahesh
Wanjiru Koinange is a Kenyan writer, born and raised on a farm on the outskirts of Nairobi with her four siblings. Her articles and essays have been published in print and online platforms, including Chimurenga and Commonwealth Writers. She holds a degree in Journalism and Literature from Nairobi’s United States International University (USIU) and a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of Cape Town, the product of which is her debut novel, The Havoc of Choice (2019). When she isn’t writing, Wanjiru is restoring Nairobi’s iconic public libraries through Book Bunk—a social impact firm working to convert neglected public libraries into inclusive spaces of art, learning and community. In addition, through the Africa Centre in Cape Town, Wanjiru works to explore and support socially engaged art.
Vani Mahesh has a deep-rooted interest in Hindu mythology and ancient Indian history. Her latest book, Journey to the Throne, is a YA historical fiction published by HarperCollins, India. She is the author of Creation Tales – stories from Brahma Purana, Saptarshi – The Seven Supreme Sages, both published by Amar Chitra Katha. She has written The Glory of Shiva Purana – Volume 1, published by Sri Ramakrishna Math. Her novel A Kingdom for his Love is based on a play by Bhasa, a 1 st -century dramatist. Vani has also authored a contemporary fiction, Meet Me in the Middle, published by Black Ink and HarperCollins.
A software engineer by profession, Vani owned and ran EasyLib.com, the first online library in India, for thirteen years. She lives in Bangalore with her husband and two daughters.
