Bio
G. N. Devy, scholar, thinker and cultural activist, writes in three languages– English, Marathi and Gujarati– and has published or edited over a hundred works in areas like Literary Criticism, Linguistics, anthropology, History, Philosophy and Education. Several of his works are translated in various Indian languages, and have received prestigious awards and honours, including Padmashree. He is primarily known for the country-wide language survey covering over seven hundred languages, and as the founder of the Bhasha Research Centre at Baroda and the Adivasi Academy at Tejgad.
