Bio

Inhouse playwright and artistic director, JustUs Repertory, Dr Gowri Ramnarayan was formerly Deputy Editor, The Hindu, and vocal accompanist to Carnatic musician MS Subbulakshmi. She has served on the Fipresci Jury in international film festivals. She is now Chairperson, Rukmini Devi Arundale Trust, Senior Associate Editor, Sruti Magazine, Adjunct Faculty, Asian College of Journalism, and a freelance journalist.

Dr Ramnarayan has authored original plays (Dark Horse & Other Plays, Wordcraft), children’s books (Abu’s World, Abu’s World Again, HarperCollins, Past Forward, OUP), and a biography of MS Subbulakshmi (MS & Radha). She has translated Vijay Tendulkar’s plays (Kanyadan, A Friend’s Story, OUP), MRM Sundaram’s biography of Tamil writer Kalki (Kalki Krishnamurthy: His Life and Times, Kalki Biography Project), Kalki’s short fiction (Selected Stories, Penguin), and novel (The Sound of Waves, Hachette India).
