Bio

Amrit Gangar is a Mumbai-based author, curator, film theoretician and historian. He has authored books on cinema in English and Gujarati, besides having edited and co-edited a number of books. His book Cinema Vimarsh has been awarded by the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi. For the past decade he has been engaged with his theoretical concept of Cinema Prayoga and has presented it at various venues in India and abroad. He has been on juries of numerous film festivals and is on the international advisory board of the Moving Image Review & Art Journal (MIRAJ) published from London. He is Consultant Curator for the National Museum of India Cinema being set up in Mumbai by Government of India. He was curator for the film section of Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda Artfest in its initial years, as also of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale’s Artists’ Cinema section, 2015 and 2016.
