Bio

Dr. Gogu Shyamala is one of the foremost contemporary Dalit writers in India, as an author, editor, researcher, and biographer. She holds a Ph.D. in Life Stories of Dalit Women in Telangana in the Department of Social Exclusion department, the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Her collection of short stories Father Maybe an Elephant and Mother Only a Small Basket but… is a landmark in Indian literature – it has also been translated into German and some stories into French. She has received several awards. Some of her writings are in the syllabus of higher education in Telangana state, other states and also other countries Her writings are translated into Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu and Bengali.
She has worked as a Senior Research Fellow at Anveshi Hyderabad.
