Bio
Storyteller, novelist, researcher and activist, Guruprasad Kantalagere is from Kantalagere village in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk, Tumakuru district. By profession, he is a government school teacher. He is also pursuing his PhD on KB Siddaiah’s poetry at Tumkur University.
His short stories and novels are gripping narrative expressions of his unique lifeworld and humanitarian concerns. ‘Govinajaadu’, ‘Kendada Beludingalu’, and ‘Naati Hunja’ are his published short story collections, while ‘Trunkutatte’ is a narrative of his hostel experiences. The well-researched volume ‘Dalita Kathanagala Samskrutika Adhyayana’ published by the Karnataka Sahitya Academy is his monumental research work. His recently released acclaimed novel ‘Atrocity’ has become widely discussed.
He has won prizes in both the short story and poetry categories in the Prajavani Deepavali competition. He is also the recipient of the L Basavaraju Endowment Award from the Sahitya Parishat, the Veechi Emerging Writer Award, the Sedam Amma Award, the Triveni Shellikeri Award and the Dwaranakunte Patanna Novel Award.
