Bio

Dr. K. Puttaswamy is a retired officer, writer, journalist, translator, film historian and film critic.
He did his BSc in Agriculture from University.of Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore, his Diploma in journalism from Mysore University and his DLitt from Kannada University, Hampi (2005).
He worked as Sub Editor/Reporter for Prajavani for 3 years and then joined the Information Department in 1985 and worked on deputation in various Departments / Corporations, notably in the Dept of Youth Services and Sports, and as PRO in the BBMP (then BMP), in the BDA, and in BESCOM.

He has published 28 works including translations on various subjects and edited 4 important volumes. The subjects of his works cover fiction, non- fiction, Science and Technology, and Sports and Cinema. The important works include:
– Jeevajaala (1999 – 10 Editions), Cinemayana (2009 – 3 Editions), Kannada Talkies in English (2019)
– Translations (Selected) – The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, Yaryuingam by Birendra Bhattacharya, Up from Slavery by Booker T Washington, Gandhi’s Challenge to Modern Science by Sunil Sahasrabudhe, Code Name God by Mani Bhaumik.

He has served as a Jury Member in various International Film Festivals:
– Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India 2016 and 2019
– In various sections at the Bangalore International Film Festival 2016, 2017 and 2019.

He has received several awards for his books notably:
– President’s Swarnakamal (Gold Medal) for his book Cinemayana in the Best Writing on Cinema category in the 57th edition of the National Film Awards 2009
– Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award for Jeevajaala and Cinemayana 1999 and 2009
– Karnataka State Environment Award for his published works on Environment 2000
– Kuvempu Bhashabharathi Award for his translation work 2019.
