Bio
Prathibha Nandakumar is a leading Kannada and English bilingual poet, journalist, filmmaker, columnist, and translator from Bengaluru. She has published 24 books, including 18 poetry anthologies, two collections of short stories, one autobiography, three biographies of eminent personalities, two collections of column writings, two plays, eight translations of novels, short stories, plays and biographies, an autobiography in Kannada, and What I Fed the Cat, a collection of poems in English. Her poems are included in major national and international anthologies and are taught as a part of feminist studies in several universities in the US. They have been translated into major Indian languages and English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Finnish, Danish, Greek, and other languages, and are published in major off and online literary magazines.
She has translated extensively from and into Kannada and English, and the translations are critically claimed. She was invited to present her poems at the Gothenburg Book Festival, Sweden; the Asian Writers’ Meet, Helsinki, Finland; and the SAARC Poets’ Meet, Kathmandu. She was a part of the delegation of five Indian writers to China and Sweden. Her awards include the Infosys Foundation Award for Literature, Bangalore Literature Festival Lifetime Achievement Award, SAARC Poet felicitation at Kathmandu, Mahadevi Verma Kavya Samman, Dr. Shivarama Karanth Award, Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, Dr Anupama Niranjana Award, Kempe Gowda Karnataka State Award, and the Hoogar Memorial Award for Journalism among others.
