Bio
An author and academic, Reba Som, the recipient of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship in 2000–02, has served as the founding director of ICCR, Kolkata, from 2008 to 2013. Among her several publications are: Differences within Consensus: The Left-Right Divide in the Congress 1929-39, (Orient Longman, New Delhi, 1995): Subhas Chandra Bose and the Resolution of the Women's Question, (Centre for Women's Development Studies, New Delhi, 2002): Gandhi, Bose, Nehru and the Making of the Modern Indian Mind (Penguin 2004), Rabindranath Tagore: The Singer and His Song (Penguin, 2009), Margot: Sister Nivedita of Vivekananda (Penguin Random House, 2017) and Hop, Skip and Jump: Peregrinations of a Diplomat’s Wife (Om Books, 2023).
A trained singer of Rabindrasangeet and Nazrul Geeti, Reba Som’s compact disc albums, Selected Songs of Rabindranath Tagore (Saregama, 2005) and Love Songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam (Times Music, 2016) include her English translations of the lyrics and are on the net at gaana.com, You Tube, and timesmusic.com.
