Arebashe: The Many Language Worlds of Karnataka

Seetharama Kevala did his MA in Sociology from Mangaluru University (receiving the II Rank) and his MA in English from Kuvempu University. He qualified with the Karnataka State Level Eligibility Test (SLET). He has put in 31 years of service in teaching, and at present he is the Principal, Vidyarashmi Vidyalaya, Savanoor, Kadaba Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District.
He researched and submitted a minor research thesis titled “Bhootaaraadhane Padhdhathiyalli Aaguththiruva Iththeechina Badalaavanegalu” in Arebhashe to the Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruthi mathu Sahitya Academy, Madikeri in 2019. His other research projects include: “Socio-Economic Pattern of Coastal Karnataka” (1988) and “Drought Management Strategies and Remedies” (1990) under the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru; “Panchayath Raj Elections in 1987 and the After Effects” (1989-90) under the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru; and “Household Settlements with Various Government Schemes in Ajjavara Village, Dakshina Kannada District, A case study” (2016) under the University of Mysore.
He has an interest in literature and theatre and is a regular writer in Hingara, the quarterly published by the Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruthi mathu Sahitya Academy, Madikeri. He has composed 40 mini verses and two dramas in Kannada, Plastic Bhoota and Swachcha Devaru, and has directed and staged Plastic Bhoota twice. He was a regular columnist with the title ‘Jeevana Kaushalya’ in the Kannada fortnightly Suddi Shikshana Udyoga Mahithi, Puttur, and he has contributed more than 350 articles to various magazines. He acted as the teacher in the Kannada movie Kanasu Kannu Teredaaga.
