Shivarama Padikkal is Professor at the Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies, University of Hyderabad. He is the author of the Kannada book Naadu Nudiya Roopaka: Rashtra, Aadhunikate Mattu Kannadada Modala Kaadambarigalu that discusses nation, modernity and the early novels in Kannada. The Oxford University press has recently published the new English translation of the first Kannada Novel Indira Bai translated by him and Vanamala Viswanatha. He along with Padmakar Dadegaonkar has translated from Kannada, Sara Abbobkar’s novel Chandragiriya Teeradalli to Marathi (Panchadara, Hyderabad) and edited Suniti Kumar Chatterjee: A Centenary Tribute (Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi) with Udaya Narayana Singh. He is working in the areas of Modern Kannada literature, Translation Studies, Postcolonial Studies, and Cultural Studies and has widely published in Kannada and English.
