Bio

Smitha Amrithraj is from Kodagu. An agriculturist and a home maker, she writes in Kannada and has published three poetry collections, three collections of essays (Lalitha Prabandhagalu) and a review of Kannada books.

Her poetry collections are:
1. Kaala kayuvudilla.
2. Thutiyanchinalli ulida kavithegalu.
3. Maathu meeti hoguva hotthu.

Her essay collections are:
1. Angaladanchina kanavarikegalu.
2. Ondu vilaasada hinde.
3. Neladaaya parimala.

Her book review is published as Hotthage hotthu.
She has been honoured with several awards at the state level for her literary works. One of her poems and a Lalitha Prabandha is included in the Kannada study material for students of Mangalore University.

The honours she has received for her literary works include an award by the Susheela Sitarama Shetty Trust, Mumbai, Swabhimaani book award, Advisor poetry award, Sahithya Sharabha award, Kodagina Gowramma award, B.M. Shree poetry award, Sahithya Rathna, Kaavya Rathna, Kaavya Manikya, Buddha, Basava, Gandhi award and many more.

Her poems, essays and stories have won prizes in competitions held by magazines. She has recited poems at national level kavi sammelanas organised by the Kendra Sahithya Academy, Mysuru Dasara kavigoshti, Horanaada kannadiga kavigoshti held in Hyderabad, Akhila Bharatha Sahitya Sammelana held in Raichur, and Mysuru Madikeri Akaashavaani. Many of her poems have been translated into English and Malayalam.
