SR Vijayashankar

Bio

SR Vijayashankar is a well-known literary critic in Kannada and has been writing columns and book reviews regularly for more than four decades, including a few in the English media. He has published 23 books in Kannada. He is a recipient of over 10 prestigious awards for literary criticism in Kannada, including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award twice, and the Dr GS Shivarudrappa & Prof LS Sheshagiri Rao awards for lifetime contribution to literary criticism.

He studied journalism, English literature, law and management. After a few years of teaching in a college, he moved over to industry and worked in Indian companies, such as HMT Ltd. and in American companies, such as Intel Technologies, Cisco Systems and Novell Software for over three decades.

Later, he worked as a visiting professor at Bengaluru City University, and he has given special lectures at Stony Brook University in New York. He also served as Director of the Translation Centre of the Central Sahitya Akademi for five years. Vijayashankar lives in Bengaluru.
