After a teaching career at both the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and the North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Sridhar Balan joined the publishing industry. He worked with Oxford University Press, India for almost 20 years and was a senior director. He later joined Ratna Sagar
Publishers where he worked with schools on workshops to strengthen the reading habit among children.
Mr Balan has been a member of the UNESCO World Book Capital Network and helps to further the WBC Charter objective to foster a book culture in cities. He has been a prolific literary columnist in almost all major newspapers and his book ‘Off the Shelf – On Books, Book People and Places’
(Speaking Tiger Books, New Delhi ) has been extensively reviewed in the media. Mr Balan is currently, senior consultant with Ratna Books which publishes translations from Indian languages
