T.R. Shankar Raman is a wildlife scientist and writer living and working in a landscape of rainforests and plantations in the Anamalai mountains. His book 'The Wild Heart of India: Nature and Conservation in the City, the Country, and the Wild' was published by Oxford University Press in 2019. He also co-authored 'Pillars of Life: Magnificent Trees of the Western Ghats' (2018) with his partner Divya Mudappa. As a wildlife scientist with the Nature Conservation Foundation, he studies forest and wildlife ecology, works to restore tropical rainforests, and foster coexistence of people and wildlife. His creative non-fiction writings and reflective essays explore the natural world in its beauty and subtlety and vulnerability, seeking to better understand the human place in nature.
