Bio

Vidya Hegde did her primary and secondary education at Manchikeri, Uttara Kannada District, and then got theatre training while working as an actress at Ninasam Tirugata, in its formative years between 1985-87.

• She is a member of the Ninasam group since 1986, and takes active part in all its activities, as an actress, musician and volunteer.

• She has so far acted in more than 30 plays directed by major theatre directors such as Chandrashekhara Kambara, Raghunandana, Chidambara Rao Jambe, Prakash Belawadi, Nataraj Honnavalli, Manjunatha Badiger and BR Venkataramana Aithal.

• The plays she has acted in include: Ashadada Ondu Dina, Kakanakote, Vigadavikramacharita, Muru Kasina Sangita Nataka, Noorjahan, Mantrashakti, Kramavikrama, Cherry Topu, Saddu Vicharane Nadeyuttide, Lear Lahari, Shishira Vasantha, Babugiri, Uttararamacharitam, Jugari Cross, Chirakumara Sabha, Krouncha Pakhigalu and Goodinolage Ondu Hakki.

• She has performed more than 200 shows in most of the theatre centres in Karnataka and in some places outside such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata etc.

• She has conducted theatre music classes at the Ninasam Theatre Institute and has also directed plays for various groups.

• The plays she directed include: Krouncha Pakshigalu, Bhagavadajjukeeyam, Chalk Circle, Birugali at LB College Women’s Hostel, Sagara, and also Birugali for villagers at Eechalakoppa, and Prahlada Charite, a musical play for Sadguru Sangita Vidyalaya, Sagara.

• She has also got training in Hindustani classical music, Bharatanatyam and Yakshagana dance. She has composed and executed music as well as choreographed for many theatre productions.

• Received the Samvahana Award 2018, awarded by The Public Relations Council of India, Bangalore for her contribution to the field of Kannada Theatre.

• At present she lives in Heggodu.
