– Working as a Professor of History in Kannada University, Hampi since 1996.

– Worked as a Social Scientist in the multi- disciplinary project on Mountain Bio-Diversity of Western Ghats with the collaboration of Mac Arthur and UNESCO funded Project of French Institute of Pondicherry (1996-1999).

– Worked as a Commonwealth Post-Doctoral Fellow (2000-2001) on Separatist and Anti- Separatist Movements in Coorg of South India in the Centre for South Asian Studies, St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford, UK.

– Worked for the Research Project of 2nd Administrative Reforms Commission, Government of India on Intervention of Naxalism in Karnataka (2005- 2006).

– Chairperson, Preparation of the Syllabus for the Social Sciences Text Book Committee (V to X Standard), DSERT, Government of Karnataka Bangalore (2006- -2010); Chairperson, Social Sciences Text Book Preparation Committee (VIII Standard), Text Book Society, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore (2010-2011).

– Editorial Advisory Board Member, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, an International Journal, Emerald Group Publishing Limited, UK and Indian Historical Review, New Delhi.

– Published a number of articles on Land Tenure System of Coorg, Ethnic and Separatist movements of post-colonial Karnataka and a number of books on Subaltern Studies, Oral traditions of Karnataka, Conflicting Identities in Karnataka, Re-Reading of Rajendranama of 1807, Amarasulya Sangrama 1837 and Kaadumakkala Koogu-Kodagu Dalita Budakattu Nayakara Kathanagalu and so on.

– Founding Editor of a bi annual refereed English Journal called Journal of Karnataka Studies, (2001-2013).

– Chief Editor of Encyclopedia of History (2001), Kannada University History Volumes (8 Vol.) (2010) published in Kannada.

– Worked as the Dean, Registrar and Acting Vice Chancellor of Kannada University.
