Hardeep Singh Puri is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs. He has written the book ‘Perilous Interventions: The Security Council and the Politics of Chaos’. Former Vice-President of the International Peace Institute (a nonprofit think tank headquartered in New York) and Secretary General of the Independent Commission on Multilateralism, he was also head of the Indian delegation to the UN Security Council and ambassador and permanent representative of India to the UN, New York. From 2008 to 2009 he was secretary (economic relations), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Raghavan was appointed Convenor of the National Security Advisory Board of the National Security Council of India in September 2016, after a diplomatic career of over 36 years (1979- 2016).
He was Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation (2014-16), to Ireland (2007-11) and the Czech Republic (2004-7). He has had diplomatic assignments in South Africa, Vietnam, United Kingdom, Poland and USSR.
He was Joint Secretary to the Prime Minister of India (2000-04) dealing with Foreign Affairs, Nuclear Energy, Space, Defence and National Security.
In 2012-13, he was Secretary in charge of India’s external economic relations, also overseeing the departments of personnel & property administration, security and e-governance in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi. He conceptualized and headed the Development Partnership Administration (DPA) in MEA, which implements and monitors India’s economic partnership programs abroad, with an annual budget of about US$ 1.5 billion.
Ambassador Raghavan writes and lectures extensively on foreign policy, national security and strategic issues.
