Narendra Rai Derla
Narendra Rai Derla completed his Post-Graduation in Kannada Literature with a gold medal and has an M.Phil degree. He was awarded a Doctorate by Mangalore University in the year 2004 for his thesis ‘Kannada Sahithyadalli Bete- Prabhutvadinda Prajaprabhuthvadhedege’. He joined as an Assistant Professor in Kannada at the Government First Grade College in the year 1997 and at present is working as a Professor in Kannada at Government First Grade Women’s College, Puttur.
He has authored nearly 27 books like Tejaswi Pathragalu, Karvalo (translation), Nelamukhi, Hasiru Usiru, Beru Baduku, Thodhalu, Entu Loka, Concrete Kaadina Putta Kitaki, Bogase Thumba Beeja etc. Narendra Rai Derla also has edited nearly 9 books like ‘Lankesh Nenapu’, ‘Nele’, ‘Sridurga’, ‘Panchadurga’ etc. ‘Nelamukhi’ authored by him was awarded the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award and Dr| Ha Ma Nayaka Ankana Sahitya Award in the year 2018. Likewise, his translated book ‘Karvalo’ received the Kuvempu Bhasha Abhivruddhi Pradhikara Award in 2018, and ‘Hasiru Usiru’ and ‘Beru Baduku’ written by him received the best book in the Agricultural Literature section from the Agricultural University of Bangalore in the years 2015 and 2020 respectively. His documentary ‘Idhu neerina oorina Kathe’ was awarded Fa.Go.Award. And along with these he was awarded Karnataka Raajya Parisara Pathrikodyama Prashasthi in 2012 and Athyuthama Parisara Pusthaka Prashasthi from Akshara Prathishtana. The College Magazine edited by him has been constantly bagging the Best Annual Magazine Award from Mangalore University.
He is a voracious reader and prolific writer and has received many fellowships and research grants for his various literary works related to agriculture and cultural studies from Tulu Sahitya Academy, Karnataka Sahitya Academy, Kempegowda Adhyayana matthu Samshodhana Kendra (Kempegowda studies and research center) etc.
His articles and write-ups have appeared as textbook syllabi in the graduation textbooks of Mangalore University, Kuvempu University, Bangalore University, Yenepoya University of Mangalore, Karnataka State Kannada text of the P.U. Board, Karnataka State High School textbook and Kerala State Kannada High School text.
He has worked as a sub-editor of the Kannada weekly magazine ‘Taranga’ for six years. Along with this, he has worked in various limits such as the Examiner of Karnataka Lokaseva Ayoga six times, Viva convenor of Tumkur University PhD twice, Member of the Board Syllabus of St. Aloysius College 2012 onwards, Member of the Advisory Committee of the Dept. of Journalism of Alva’s College 2019-20, Member of the Text Book Committee of Mangalore University 2014, Member of the Karnataka State Samskrithika Neethi Nirupana Samithi 2014, Ex-officio member of Kannada Jagrithi Samithi 2016, Member of Tulu Text Book Committee of Mangalore University 2018, Member of the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee of St. Aloysius Autonomous College, Mangalore 2019. He also has been the Research Guide of Hampi University in 2017.
He has written nearly 900 articles for many Kannada daily and weekly magazines. He has conducted four workshops of three days on writing skills in collaboration with the Sahitya Academy. He has interviewed popular literary personalities of Karnataka like Poorna Chandra Thejaswi, S.L.Byrappa, Pu.thi.na., K.S.N., Chaduranga, Kayyara, Chennaveera Kanavi, HSK, NK, etc. for the Kannada weekly ‘Taranga’. His columns ‘Hasiru Usiru’, ‘Ajjana Jagali’, ‘Thanmaya’, and ‘Mannu Masi’ appeared in Kannada dailies like Vijayavani, Prajavani, Vartha Bharathi and Vare Kore respectively regularly for a couple of years.
Shameema Kuthar is a writer and motivational speaker. She was born in Kuthar, Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada and now resides in Kumble, Kasaragod.
She did an MA in English and an MA in Journalism and Mass Communication. She is currently working as a head of the department in Mahatma Degree College and a lecturer in Imam Shafi She campus.
She is a Resource person in child psychology and pre-marital counselling.
She is a writer in Beary, Kannada and English. She has published in Kannada daily and weekly magazines. Her Kannada stories have been broadcasted in Akashavani Mangaluru.
She has participated in more than 50 poetry festivals and received several prizes for her writing.
Dr. Purushothama Bilimale has served for many years as Professor of Kannada at the Kannada University, Hampi, and then as a Director at the American Institute of Indian Studies, New Delhi. He established the Kannada Language Chair, Centre of Indian Languages, JNU and served as its first Professor.
Prof. Bilimale is a teacher, organizer, writer, and columnist, who helped students and researchers for over forty years. He has had extensive experience in the area of Indian Language, Literature and culture. A long-time student of Yakshagana (a South Indian folk performing art), he has learned and performed Yakshagana for the last 30 years.
He has 28 books to his credit. His autobiography, ‘Kage muttida neeru’ (Crow-Touched Water) has received the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award.
Wilson Roshan Sequeira, from Kateel, Dakshina Kannada District, writes in the pen name of Wilson, Kateel. He writes in Konkani and Kannada. Pavle, Deek ani Peek, Tasveenth, Encounter and Chiturleche Achche Din – are his published collections of poems in Konkani. NISHEDHAKKOLAPATTA ONDU NOTU – is his published collection of poems in Kannada.
He has won the Vimala V Pai World Konkani best Book Award for Encounter, Karnataka Sahitya Academy award and K.B. Siddaiah Award for NISHEDHAKKOLAPATTA ONDU NOTU.
He has participated in the poetry sessions organized by All India Radio and Doordarshan, and the Mysore Dasara poetry session, Rabindranath Tagore Birth Centenary poetry session and Dharwad Literary Festival poetry session. He has written lyrics to konkani music albums and cinemas. His poems are featured in ‘Arive Ambedkar’, a poetry collection of 125 selected poets brought out on the occasion of the 125th year of birth of Dr. B R Ambedkar, and in the souvenir brought out by the Prison Ministry of India. His poem is featured in the textbook of National College Bangalore.
Presently he is the Editor of ARSO, a bilingual monthly magazine and associate editor of the premier Konkani literary web portal kittall.com
