M M Kalburgi is hailed as the most outstanding and authentic research scholar of Kannada literature and culture. His knowledge of, and work on old Kannada literature, epigraphy, manuscriptology, vachanasahitya are the milestones of his career. All of his writings are available in a set of seven volumes called Marga. He is the recipient of Nadoja award, Nrupatunga award, Pampa Prashasti, Karnataka Sahitya Akademi and central Sahitya Akademi awards.
