Bio
Charu Nivedita is the author of more than hundred works in Tamil, ranging from collection of essays to novels, anthologies of poetry to short stories. The writer hails from an underprivileged caste and class background, which informs much of his writing, particularly Raasa Leela. Known as a postmodern, transgressive writer, he is most interested in ‘autofiction’ (autobiographical fiction). The prejudices he faced for hailing from a tribal background, in the elite circle that dominates literature in any language, have been woven into his novels as satire. His novel Zero Degree found a place in HarperCollins’ 50 Writers, 50 Books – The Best of Indian Fiction. Over the years, he has been compared to Vladamir Nabakov and James Joyce. His books Marginal Man (Novel), To Byzantium: A Turkey Travelogue, Unfaithfully Yours (Collection of Essays), Morgue Keeper (Collection of Short Stories), Towards a Third Cinema, Conversations with Aurangzeb: A Novel are available in English.
