Nabaneeta Dev Sen is a major creative writer in India, and an academic of international recognition. While her academic work is in English, her creative writing is in Bangla.
Retired as Professor of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, has more than eighty publications in a variety of genres, consisting of poetry, novels, short stories, travelogues, plays, memoirs, literary criticism, translations and children’s literature.
She has received national and international acclaim, including Padmashri, Sahitya Akademi Award, Bangla Akademi Lifetime Achievement Award, Publishers and Booksellers’ Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, etc. She has represented Indian writing at international fora, was the Radhakrishnan Memorial Lecturer at Oxford University, held the Maytag Chair of Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at Colorado College, USA, a visiting professor at the International Summer School of Semiotic and Structural Studies, was member of the executive committees of International Comparative Literature Association, and of the International Association of Semiotic Studies. She is the President of Soi, Women Writers’ Association of West Bengal.
