Tilman Rammstedt - Bangalore Literature Festival (BLF)

Bio

Tilman Rammstedt was born in 1975 in Bielefeld and now lives in Berlin. He has received many awards including the renowned Ingeborg Bachmann and Annette von Droste Hülshoff literary prizes. Der Kaiser von China (The King of China) that won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 2008 is translated into English by Seagull Books, Kolkata and will be released during the Bangalore Literature Festival. It is an overwhelming picaresque novel, so sparkling, action-packed, and exceedingly funny that one allows oneself to be lied to with the greatest of pleasure. It tells a ripping story in which a grandson, somewhat absurdly named Keith Stapperpfenning, steals not only his grandfather’s wife, but also his travelling money. He has to think up a fairy tale about a trip to China to tell his siblings, a trip he will supposedly take with his grandfather – although he has just died.

Rammstedt’s other well-known works include Erledigungen vor der Feier (2003), Wir bleiben in der Nähe (2005), Brachland – Geschichten vom Nichts (2010) and Die Abenteuer meines ehemaligen Bankberaters (2012).

Tilman Rammstedt is also Goethe Writer-in-Residence @ The Bangalore Literature Festival in September 2013.
